We celebrated Jack's 6th birthday this weekend. Yes, you read right...six. I can hardly believe it myself. My first born is no longer a baby. First Kindergarten and now six, really?
His birthday fell on a Saturday for the first time {we had a leap year in there somewhere}. It was an absolutely divine Saturday at that. A perfect Spring day. Thank goodness for that because I had nearly 20 boys plus a few girls that really needed to celebrate in the great outdoors.
We woke Jack up with our traditional cameras in the face and Happy Birthday tune. I'm not sure if he liked it, but that comes with the birthday territory around here. And therefore, he was a trooper.
We followed that with a serious LEGO party. I would certainly regret not including every last detail of the party in this post. Followed by fun party pictures. So get your building britches on. This is going to be a long one.
The little guests arrived via the side walkway entrance to the backyard. I did everything I could think of to scream "straight to the backyard" minus the actual screaming.
The walkway was lined with their buckets. Each kid grabbed a bucket to use for the duration of the party. They needed a place to hold their creations. This also served as their party favor.
Initially each bucket was filled with an activity checklist and a lego pencil {which I hot glued a Lego onto}. The rest was up to them. Each child was required to complete all 6 activities. This worked amazingly well. This kept the kids moving from station to station and not loitering at one place {ahem...the race track}.
And here is the Lego Test Track. Or at least part of it. I had my contractor build it {because he had nothing better to do, yea right}. But he so graciously took on my very menial job with a smile. I then painted it and used checkered flag duck tape to make lanes.
The kids made their own car and then put it in their bucket to take home.
Each station was labeled with a picture frame and card. I found the frames at Michaels and then painted them with the party colors.
This is the Lego Coloring table. I had the books made by a shop on Etsy. Inside the kids could create their own Lego man. And I found the coloring sheets online and personalized them.
And of course, the crayons were Lego Man shaped.
This is the Lego Estimation Jar. There were 78 Legos inside. The winner got to take the Legos home. He guessed 72!
This next station was the Make A Magnet. I bought small two inch base plates on Ebay and then hot glued a magnet to the back. Each kid created a magnet and then got to take it home as well.
Here is the Lego Toss. Way easy to put together and fun for the kids to. A lot of them kept their score on the back of their activity card. Oh, and every bucket and basket you see in this post is from the Dollar Store. I wiped them out.
And finally this is the Creation Station. I bought six large green base plates from Ebay again. Then I filled three buckets full of odds and ends Lego pieces. The kids went to town using their imaginations. This was definitely a popular station.
I also set up a little kid's creation station with Mega Blocks for any little bros and sis's that were there.
I covered all the chairs with white pillow cases and attached di-cut circles in the party colors. I was going for a Lego look. Can you tell? As you may have noticed, I also used lots of polka dot fabric to cover the tables. Polka dots at a Lego party seemed fitting to me.
For the food table, I found those great Lego storage boxes at the Container Store. And we can use them post party! I cut up some old Lego boxes of Jacks and framed them to hang on either side of the banner.
All of the paper products {signs, the activity list, the banner, etc.} were done by
Sweet Peach Papiere. Tracy is amazing to work with. Very meticulous {which you know I love}, on time, great vision, and presents a beautiful end product. She's done several of our last parties and I can't see me going anywhere else.
Now on to the menu...
Lego Sandwiches naturally. I used a fondant cutter to make the small circles and then stuck them to the top of the bread with Easy Cheese. Gotta love cheese in a can.
Lego Fruit Kabobs. I topped each kabob with triangle flags in the party colors. And then I spent my entire Friday spearing fruit.
Lego Popcorn. I really wanted polka dotted popcorn boxes, but just couldn't come across them. So I settled for the color scheme at least.
And it wouldn't be Jack's party without Jello. He is one Jello-lovin' kid.
And last Lego juice boxes. I couldn't resist. I found a template online and sized it to my needs. There were also green ones on the other side of the yellow.
Then it was time for dessert...
I was super tempted to do primary color cupcakes, but decided against it. The stain factor is horrific. So these cute cupcake toppers added just the punch of color we needed.
And what Lego part is complete without Lego candy? Another take home goodie.

Each year you continue to amaze me-I love watching you grow! I can't wait to see what the next year holds. All my love to my first born and my favorite boy!
