A Little Sunshine

A little sunshine never hurt anyone. Especially after the winter we've had around here...wind, sleet, hail, snow, rain, you name it, we've had it and I'm sure it's not over yet. I love the sun, I enjoy being outdoors, and I actually find myslelf craving it. After being cooped up for 3 months, the Cibulas finally got outside to enjoy the warm(er) weather this weekend.

*I must explain Jack's outfit...he really did match at one point with a tee shirt and brown sweats (that I'm aware are way too short)...add a red fleece (that was already downstairs) to keep him warm, and then a pair of "outdoor" shoes from the garage, and wha lah! This is what you get.*

Poor Maggie, this was one of her first outdoor experiences...it's no fun being a fall baby. She finally had the chance to take in some fresh air, soak up a little sun, and watch Jack play as wide eyed as could be.

Jack pulled out the baseball tee first. Daddy made it official by topping him off with his Braves hat...just a teeny bit too big.

Next was the "Stomp Rocket". Jack got this from Santa and unfortunately, Christmas day was the only other day he has the opportunity to enjoy it. If you don't own one of these, I highly recommend it...so much fun, easy to use, and hours (well minutes, in Jack's case) of entertainment for boys and girls!

Another outdoor favorite...a trike ride with Daddy.

Even our spirited weinie dog, Cosby, joined the outdoor fun. Note he is sporting his shock collar to keep his "spirited" self contained!

A Happy Valentine's Day

We spent Valentine's Day 2010 at the Heilman's. It was Jessie's 1st birthday and wow, was it a "Lovely" party. Fantastic job Donna! The birthday girl was all smiles amidst about 35 people in her house. She didn't mind a bit. Pretty impressive for a one year old.

Jack had a great time exploring new toys, making meal time messes, chasing around bigger kids, and eating way too many sweets. Our Maggie has been a little under the weather--poor thing, she's fighting her 3rd cold in her tiny little life & this is one of the ONLY times I've taken her out of the house other than DRs appointments! Ugh...the pitfalls of being #2.

Even with that, she was a trooper. She spent most of the party sleeping in a back bedroom, but awoke to a Happy Valentine's Day! Her eyes must have been a mile wide soaking in the busyness of a first birthday. It's fair to say that it was good medicine because since then she has only been felling better!

Jack and his forever Valentine, Sophia!

The Birthday Girl...isn't she delicious?

Yes, you read correctly...it was Jessie's 1st birthday, not Jack's.

A little late for that now, buddy!

My "Littlest Valentine"!

These favors are too cute to eat. How precious is it that Maggie got one too?

How To Build A Snowman

12 Steps to Build a Snowman

written by: Paula Cibula
demonstrated by: Jack & Daddy Cibula

1. Roll a big ball of snow heavier than you can push.

2. Test taste the snow to make sure it's "frunchy" (crunchy).

3. Pat the snow like a drum with your Daddy.

4. Test taste the snow again. Yep, it's still "frunchy".

5. Put another snowball on top of the base. Pat it good and hard.

6. Test the snow again. This time use 2 hands to make sure it's cold and yes, you guessed it..."frunchy"

7. Find two sticks for arms and place them in the body. Make sure you choose two sticks off of the trees so Mommy has to pull them down and get covered in falling snow.

8. Take a break to eat the carrot that is suppose to be used as the snowman's nose. By this time, snow is getting old and a carrot is "frunchy" too!

9. If it's getting dark outside, wait until sunlight the next morning to assemble and decorate the head. Tennis balls work well as eyes.

10. If you want a happy snowman use a banana. It works great as a smile and you don't have to eat it because it's not "frunchy".

11. Take a break with you best pal, Lovey, because that was hard work. If you don't have a Lovey, any ol' stuffed animal will do.

12. Congratulations! Your snowman is complete and your belly is full!

My Maggie: 3 Months

My Maggie is 3 months old today. Can I get a collective sigh? I feel like the 3 month mark is such an accomplishment. It's the end of the newborn stage and the beginning of all things wonderful. Although, it's hard for me to believe that things could get any more wonderful, Maggie has a been a darling newborn. If it weren't from past experience, I probably wouldn't know that it could get any better. So ready or not, here we come incredible infant stage...

Eating
Maggie never ceases to surprise me with her efficient eating style. She has narrowed her nursing sessions to 5 times a day. We have one at her a.m. wake time, 7:30ish. Then they follow at 10:30ish, 1:30ish, 4:30ish, and 7:30ish p.m. (note there are no late night feedings:) More on that in the sleep section. When I do give her a bottle she seems to be taking about 6oz--that's a big tummy for a little gal.

Activity
My Mags is still as delightful as ever during her awake time. She has upped her wake time to a whopping 50-55 minutes including feeding. By now, Jack had a one hour and 15 minute wake time. I'm so anxious for her to stretch her time before naps, I can hardly stand it.

She still coos and goos like a champ. And has even added some new sounds like, "Iiii", Aaah", "Uhh", and a precious gurgly sound, that only a mother could love. Her favorite place to sit is in her cheapy Target bouncy seat. She smiles, coos, and bats at the jungle animals hanging from the bar. But, her absolute favorite activity of the day is the bath. I swear all I have to do is mention the word and her face lights up, her feet start kicking, and her arms are flailing. Watching big brother take his bath at night is a close second.

She absolutely despises tummy time. I've tried everything to make it more enjoyable, but no luck. It can set her off for her entire wake time and that's why, I must admit, I haven't been as proactive about as I should. She definitely needs some work on her neck muscles. I was really hoping to pull out that nifty Bumbo soon.

Sleeping
If you could see me typing this right now you would see a giant smile on my face and hopefully lightened circles and less puffiness under my eyes. Yes, you guessed it...MY MAGGIE IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! My definition of STTN is 12 hours. And you better believe my sweet Magpie is doing just that...7:30-8:00ish pm to 7:30 am. Now, is she snoozing the whole time? Not sure. But what I am sure of is I nurse her at 7:30 pm and don't hear a peep from her until 7:30 the next morning. So far, she's pretty much like clock work, just like big brother was. Her first night of fabulous sleep was at 10 weeks. I was shocked. Surely, she won't keep this up, I thought. And lo' and behold she did for 5 nonconsecutive nights that week. Then on the 11th week, she made it 12 hours all 7 nights. Since then she hasn't looked back.

As for daytime sleep, she is taking 4 naps a day. The first 3 naps are about two hours, give or take 30 minutes. And the last one is a one hour catnap. I usually have to wake her to feed during the day. Another great sleeper...so far!

I still swaddle her, although I am trying to wean her off. We've started one arm out (hence the reason she found her thumb). I'm hoping she'll be completely out of it by 4 months. But, I''ll wait until she's ready.

In Other News
If you read my last post, you saw I have a thumb sucker. Maybe I gave you the wrong impression in the post, but that was a *sigh* of relief! I have a self soother. Yahoo! No more tears before bed time and if Maggie is waking in the middle of the night, she's soothing her self right back to sleep. I will admit, I do hate how she scratches her face all up trying to get that thumb in her mouth (as you can see in her 3 month pictures). Other than that, I can totally handle a little thumb sucking when she's sleepy. I already have one, what's one more?

Since we don't have a doctor's appt this month, I'm not exactly sure of her size. However, I do know that I had to remove all of her 0-3 month clothing from her drawers and replace them with 3-6 months. We also moved up to a size 2 in diapers..she has a very expanding waistline. Her legs have totally chubbed up too. I couldn't even begin to count the rolls...love it! She seems to have tiny feet though (if you remember so did Jack;). Socks in her age appropriate size are always just a tinge too big.

Maggie is still the hiccup queen around here. It has lessened a bit, at least it's not every feeding anymore. All I've got to say is thank goodness for Gripe Water. I know she's uncomfortable when she gets them, no matter what the books say. Actually that's why her pictures today were so serious, she got a terrible case of the hiccups right in the middle of me taking pictures. I decided to give up on the mock photo shoot and relieve her. Maybe the 4 month shots will look more like my happy Maggie.

Oh and did I mention she's sleeping through the night? Just had to throw that in one more time!

Other than that everything is running pretty smoothly around here. We are all adjusting well, loving our pretty in pink baby and taking it one day at a time. Who knows what month 4 will hold!

Okay, I got one dinky little smile when Daddy got home. Too bad the flash was on.

February Kick Off

Clay and I got to visit Jack's classroom this morning. This is one of the two times that we are allowed in the door this year. I mean, I can relate to having parents in the classroom, not always fun. But geez, I let them come in more than twice a year and I was actually trying to teach the kids something...like how to read.

Anyway, we had a great little visit. It was Jack's "Donuts With The Ones You Love"...how cute is that? A perfect event for kicking off the 'Month of Love'. We got to do it last year also, although I'm not too sure how much of it Jack actually got. This year Jack was anticipating Mommy and Daddy's visit since we told him about it a week ago. We were able to leave napping Maggie at home with GG, who is visiting us from KY. Thank goodness because Maggie isn't too keen on rambunctious surroundings and that's exactly what 12 two year olds eating donuts are...rambunctious and then some. She'll get use to it one day or at least she'll have to living in this house.

Jack and Daddy each enjoyed an icing covered donut with heart sprinkles. I was cringing watching Jack eat all of that sugar, but he loved it, of course. We did a little "heart art", which is now adorning our kitchen. And we topped the morning off with Jack showing us around his classroom and modeling all of the toys. When it was time to go, Jack simply gave us both a kiss and waved us on. Easier than I expected. I sure do love that little guy.

Hmmm....Let me see how many little pieces of sugar I can count (that are also probably loaded with Red Dye #40)?

Donuts make me happy! Oh, and that hot pink heart on my cheek? I'm saving that for later when I come off of my sugar high.

I suppose I can take a donut break to smile with the "Ones I Love".

Hey Daddy, those are MY pink glittery heart stickers. (my boys aren't scared of pink, red,and hearts)
