By The Sea: Part Two

Our vacation rolled right along with more days in the sun and sand.  Tan lines were abound, most especially Maggie's.  We were all in down right amazement of how brown that girl can get.  And if I'm being completely honest, a tad bit jealous.

We had just as much fun inside as we did outside.  We played round after round of UNO {with Daddy being the reigning champion} and enjoyed a few family movie nights.  My favorite being Homeward Bound. An oldie but a goodie.

One of the many things I did enjoy about our pink beach house was waking up to the sound of Daddy reading the girls books in the children's loft.  The girls spent countless hours playing up there and so preciously called it "the book fair".

Around mid-vacation is when I noticed Lucy wasn't quite herself.  The girls and I spent the morning at the pool while Jack and Daddy visited a near by water park with the big cousins.

It's when this happened that I was certain something wasn't right.  Lucy never misses a party and most especially never falls asleep right in the middle of one.

From there she came down with a fever.  Post nap, she was a sweltering 103 degrees.  Conveniently, the car was gone {at the aforementioned water park} and conveniently the nearest kid doctor was two miles away and even more conveniently the temps outside were over a 100 degrees.

I had no choice but to saddle my girls up on the bike and go see Dr. Smilely {and I'm not even kidding...that was his name}.

There is no better place to show up with near heat exhaustion than a Drs office, I suppose.  I doused myself with cups of water when we arrived and ironically held a human heat source to my body while trying to cool off.

The things we do for the love of our children.  I'm so glad I made the decision to do so though.  My poor Lu had a double ear infection and Strep.  Sadly we are still fighting this one.

By evening, with a big ol' dose of Motrin and the start of an antibiotic, Lucy was able to push through a dinner outing.  The kids love this total tourist trap of a restaurant and I must admit, the food is pretty good.

I imagine their reasoning has nothing to do with the seafood though, but more with the live alligators.    There are at least 8 full grown ones in the courtyard pond.  Eerie.

That evening a horrendous beach storm blew in.  None like I can recall {and mind you I grew up on the beach}.  Our pink house was literally vibrating and shaking with the thunder and lightning.  It was an amazing sight to watch over the Gulf {from our window, of course}.  We were glad we had chosen this as the one night we drove to dinner in the car instead of on bikes.

The rest of the week was spent just as the days before only with a sick child in tow.  In true Lucy fashion, she was a trooper.  Thank goodness for Motrin.

Lu pushed through the best she could, but I found myself taking her back to the house for early naps. She was nearly wiped out after only a bit of play.

It didn't stop her from wave riding out in the great wide sea with her Daddy though.

On the last day I was able to capture my coveted beach pictures {with a bribe to the Sugar Shack}.  And although Lucy wasn't feeling great, you would never know by looking at these photos.  I was so happy with these sweet images of my beach babes.

I love how Daddy matches and he didn't even mean too.

And I loathe how I clash.  I had all intentions of only taking pics of the kiddos {hence my beach hair}.

And just when I think it's only going to be the kids, some generous bystander offers to grab a shot of us all.  Note to self...match or at least don't clash next time...just in case.  I'm thinking I did a pretty good job hiding my fluorescent pink and green tank.

So there it is...our vacation by the sea.  Never a dull moment in this family.  And I say that with a smile.

Now, were are set to prepare to knock a few more things off our Summer Lists and then head to the lake.

And the summer just keeps bringing on the good times!

By The Sea: Part One

We've just returned from our beach vacation week down in Seaside, Florida.

If you don't count the Seaside Security man-hunt for one of my missing children, the two mile bike ride in the sweltering heat to the nearest Urgent Care for another, and the little bike crash mishap, I would say it was a pretty great vaca.

One thing I can say, without any uncertainly, is this trio of mine always keeps it exciting.

We woke up on Father's Day in our pink beach house {don't you just know how much the girls and I loved having a pink house!}.  Immediately the kids wanted to celebrate this incredible Daddy of theirs.  We treated him with frozen waffles and juice {because that's the kind of fare we serve in a rental home}.  Then the kiddos showered him with gifts, some of which were sweetly homemade from school.

Lucy read her homemade bookmark to Daddy at least a dozen times.  "Do you know what it says Daddy?"  "It says, 'Love Daddy'."  It actually read...I love Daddy, but her explanation was way cuter.  And that darling bowtie was handmade by Maggie.  Daddy looks sharp, huh?

Our Father's Day was full of beach play.  Very fitting because Daddy Loves the beach. The little ones couldn't wait to get out there that first day.

Although the water was not looking its emerald coast best, Lucy seriously could not get enough of it.  She wanted to endlessly go "up and down" in the waves.

While Maggie literally stayed beach side the entire vacation.  Collecting shells are more her thing.

We pretty much topped everyday off at the pool.  This made Maggie's vacation.  And her brother and sister enjoyed every minute of it too.

The most fabulous part of Seaside was that we were just a bike ride away from all of the happenings. We hopped on our bikes every evening for dinner...and even a little shopping {to the boy's dismay}.

I really shouldn't think this is funny, but I just can't help myself.

If Daddy's Father's Day breakfast wasn't top notch, we quickly redeemed ourselves with some Gulf peel and eat shrimp and crab claws to boot.

The next day may have been a fan favorite.  The water was actually its emerald claim to fame color and our Florida cousins came to visit.  Always a raging hit with my kids.

The girl's had great fun building in the sand while the boys did a bit of boogie boarding.

We were all ecstatic when our cousins stayed over night with us.  There was a lot of UNO playing, burgers beachside, and a movie night.

By this point in the vacation we had already lost and found a kid and had one bike accident.  Just when we thought nothing else could happen a horrendous fever reared it's ugly head.

Somehow in between it all we managed some more beach and pool fun.  More to come...

Birthdays With A "S"

I just celebrated the best Birthday weekend that I can remember in a long time.  Not only did Jack come home from camp {and let me just say his voice coming through the door saying, "mommy" was the sweetest sound I've ever heard} but Grammy, Uncle Matt, and Whit made a visit too.  And as if it couldn't get any better, my lovely Grandma was here.  Sigh...you must know how much I adore her.  And if you don't, well, you don't know me.

From back in the days of being a little girl I remember celebrating my birthday with my Grandma.  Our birthdays are only a day apart and this lady LOVES a birthday. Needless to say, it was always made into a big deal with two fabulous days of celebration.  Honestly, there is no one else I would rather share the occasion with.

As life became busy {also known as three kids later} Grandma and I haven't been able to celebrate together as often.  I was absolutely beside myself when she promised to make the long trip down to eat cake with me.  Birthdays are the best.

This gorgeous lady was celebrating 79!

We had a house full and we were all loving it.  I had kids bunking on trundles, guest rooms filled and the sound of pure excitement running through every nook and cranny of my house.

Everywhere you turned there was some sort of excitement.  Bubbles from Grammy {who never shows up without a gift}...

Skateboarding cousins...

Cooking with GG...

And soap on the trampoline which has become ritualistic with each of Whit's visits...

We celebrated Grandma's {GG to the kids} birthday with a wonderful outdoor grilled dinner.  I was ecstatic to get to use my new patio furniture {which has been a long time coming}.  Nothing like breaking it in with a house full!

Since it was nearly impossible to put 79 candles on the cake {almost as impossible as believing this amazing lady is actually 79}, Jack had the great idea to do 7 on one side and 9 on the other.  I knew I was glad that kid came home from camp for some reason.

The following night we celebrated my birthday.  Let's just say I'm 30 something.  We went out to dinner as a family and opened more gifts.  One of which is that new dress I'm wearing from my Grandma.  79 years old and still has fabulous taste.

I truly felt beyond blessed to have this amazing family to celebrate with.  Love the one I was born with, adore the one I married in to, and can't ever get enough of the one we made.

One of the Happiest Birthdays {with a "S"} ever!
